OCOchem is a Washington-based startup in the hydrogen fuel sector. The company raised $5 million to scale its technology for turning carbon dioxide into chemicals that can be used to manufacture clean hydrogen, fertilizer, animal feed, and other products.
The company’s approach brings about two main benefits :One, it uses CO2 captured as industrial waste, reducing the amount of chemicals that enter our atmosphere. Two, it creates “formic acid” that can replace fossil fuels as a feedstock for fuels and other products. Economically, the generated formate chemicals are cost-competitive with their less-green counterparts.
